Throughout the summer, a team from Central has been working to plan a season of Prayer Walks, similar to what we have done in the past. We're excited to enter into this season of intentionally praying for our community. We hope that as a result, we will feel more connected to these people, this place, and the work God is doing amidst it all.
"Okay, okay. That all sounds cool. But, like...what is a prayer walk?"
Simply put, prayer walking is walking with intention. You're walking with purpose; that purpose being to cover Athens County in a blanket of God's love.
"So then, how does one prayer walk?"
You can go for a prayer walk with a friend or your kids, or you can go solo. You can speak the prayers out loud, or not.
While walking, think of how you can pray for God to work in the businesses, organizations, people, and families that make up our beautiful community. What do they need? Try to open your mind to what God may be doing there.
"Alright, when do I prayer walk?"
Always! You can prayer walk while walking in the grocery store, while walking home from class, in the evening after work, etc. Truly, you can prayer walk whenever.
When we prayer walk, not only might we notice new ways God is impacting our community, but we may notice that our hearts begin to change. We start to love our community the way God loves it. When we walk with intention of spreading God's love and asking God to enter our community, it becomes a prayer walk.
"This seems pretty alright. I think I'm ready to give it a try."
Excellent, tell us how it goes! We'd love to hear about the things God unveils to you during your experience prayer walking, about the prayers God puts on your heart. You can post those prayers on social media by tagging your location and using the hashtag #athenscoprayerwalk or you can use the button below to fill out the form. Then watch as we literally cover our community in prayer on the map!
Send us your prayer by emailing us it along with the location you're praying for to firstname.lastname@example.org
